D.C. Law 1-96
The Law: As part of the "D.C. Administrative Procedure Act," the D.C. Freedom of Information Act affords the public a right to inspect and copy public records of the D.C. government (including the Office of the Mayor and all District agencies). It includes a strict time limit for responses, provides for judicial enforcement, and confers a statutory right to government information (with some limitations) with a general policy of "full and complete" disclosure. Case law serves as an important guide, as do decisions printed in the D.C Register.
